Chairs Blog October 2024
Hello all.
October is upon us already. After my last trip out in September, with 2 heavily laden SD cards I set about to download them, so plugging in the first card my computer checks for bugs first with that all OK, I click on the folder and instruct it to transfer to a designated folder, and one last click of the mouse to say go, and shock horror I get the message ‘not enough space for the files’…..WHAT the !!!! I have a 4TB hard drive there must be a mistake, try again I’m thinking….click the mouse and hey presto….same flipping message.
OK let’s look at the properties for the hard drive, yup only 54MB of space left. Oh bother what to do now I’m thinking, well after a cuppa I come up with a plan.
- Move all images that are to do with family i.e. birthdays, Christmas, days out and holidays on to a separate drive, we’ll luckily I had a 2TB plug in solid state memory stick, so set about moving those first, and this took about 10 evenings.
- Delete any images that I no longer wanted to keep, well searching through hundreds of files this took another week of evenings to do.
- Delete any images I would never want to either use in making competitions or as most of us have utter rubbish images, and there were plenty of those.
Well after three weeks of moving and deleting I was sure I now had plenty of space on my hard drive.
So looking on the properties of the hard drive I now had the grand space of 23GB. Well knowing how trigger happy I can be, that isn’t going to take long to fill back up. So final decision purchase another hard drive, well 12TB might last a few years, fingers crossed.
Well we are in the month of Fungi, so I hope to be getting dirty knees whilst getting my camera as low as possible, and then downloading some to my new hard drive.
Happy clicking.
Gary.
